for David J. Shulkin, M.D.
David J. Shulkin, M.D. is President at Morristown Medical
Center, a 695 bed comprehensive healthcare organization, part
of Atlantic Health. In 2012, for the third year, Dr. Shulkin
was named one of the “50 Most Influential Physician Executives
in the Country” by Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician.
Previously, Dr. Shulkin was names of the “One Hundred Most
Influential People in American Healthcare” by Modern
Healthcare. Prior to coming to Morristown Medical Center,
Dr. Shulkin was the President and CEO of Beth Israel Medical
Center in New York, where he led a financial turnaround and
rebuild of the 1.3 billion dollar organization. Dr. Shulkin has
served in numerous physician leadership roles including the
Chief Medical Officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health
System, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Temple
University Hospital, and the Medical College of Pennsylvania
Hospital. Dr. Shulkin has also served in academic positions
including the Chairman of Medicine and Vice Dean at Drexel
University School of Medicine. As an entrepreneur Dr. Shulkin
founded and served as the Chairman and CEO of DoctorQuality, Inc
one of the first consumer orientated sources of information for
quality and safety in healthcare. Dr. Shulkin has been on the
editorial board’s of numerous journals including the Journal of
the American Medical Association and Hospital Physician, and is
on the editorial boards of the Journal of Patient Safety, the
Journal of Clinical Outcomes Management and the Journal of
Disease Management.
Dr.
Shulkin is a board-certified internist, a fellow of the American
College of Physicians, Professor of Medicine at Mt. Sinai School
of Medicine and a Senior Fellow at the Health Research And
Education Trust of the American Hospital Association, a Senior
Fellows at the School of Population Health at Thomas Jefferson
University, and an Senior Fellow (Adjunct) at the Leonard Davis
Institute in Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.
He received his medical degree from the Medical College of
Pennsylvania, his internship at Yale University School of
Medicine, and a residency and Fellowship in General Medicine at
the University of Pittsburgh Presbyterian Medical Center. He
received advanced training in outcomes research and economics as
a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the
University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Shulkin has received numerous
awards and was named one of the country's top Health care
leaders for the next century by Modern Healthcare, an
International Leader in Health Care Award by the Healthcare
Forum. |
